First launch on macOS

macOS will ask once before opening Voiacast. Here's the dance.

Voiacast is built and shipped by one person. We don't pay Apple a yearly fee to bless every release, so the first time you open Voiacast, macOS will pause and ask you to confirm. After that one confirmation it never asks again.

macOS Sonoma (14)

  1. Drag Voiacast into Applications.
  2. Right-click Voiacast in Finder, choose Open.
  3. In the dialog that appears, click Open again.

macOS Sequoia (15) and newer

  1. Drag Voiacast into Applications and double-click it.
  2. macOS will refuse the first time. Click Done.
  3. Open System Settings → Privacy & Security, scroll to the Security section, click Open Anyway next to the Voiacast row, and confirm.
Why does macOS do this?

macOS shows that prompt for any app whose maker hasn't paid Apple a yearly developer fee. Voiacast is donation-supported and that fee isn't something the donations cover yet, so we ship as-is and ask you to confirm once. Voiacast itself is unchanged: the same on-device transcription, the same permissions you grant on first launch, the same menu-bar app — only the one-time confirmation dialog is different.

Verify your download

Optional: check the file you got is the file we shipped.

Every release publishes a fingerprint of the DMG. If you'd like to be sure your download wasn't tampered with in transit, compare the fingerprint below against your copy. The two should match exactly.

What you'll need

Mac with Apple Silicon. macOS 14 or newer.

  • — A Mac with an M-series chip. Older Intel Macs aren't supported.
  • — macOS Sonoma (14) or newer.
  • — Permission to use the microphone, granted on first launch.
  • — Permission to type into other apps, granted on first launch — that's how your words land where you want them.

After you install

Voiacast updates itself.

New versions arrive in-app and ask before installing. You can skip a release whenever you want; the next one will offer itself in turn.
